Privacy policy
Your files are yours.
FileSnatch runs entirely in your browser. We don't have servers that see what you do, and we don't want to.

What FileSnatch looks at
Only what you ask it to, and only in your browser. Page content, addresses and browsing activity are never collected, stored on our servers or shared with anyone.
- The page you're on
- When the panel is open, it reads the page in your tab to find videos, pictures, sounds and files, including the ones the page loads as it plays.
- Look inside
- When you press it, FileSnatch opens the links on the page from your browser, the way you would by clicking them, and lists the files it finds. Results are kept on your computer so you can continue later.
- Every tab at once
- When you add other tabs, it reads those tabs the same way. Nothing happens to tabs you don't add.
- Sites it knows
- On sites like X, Instagram, TikTok, Reddit, Bluesky, Vimeo, Twitch and SoundCloud, it asks the site for a post's media from your browser, as the site's own page does. If you're logged in there, that request may use your login, so you can save what you can already see.
- Pasted links
- A link you paste is fetched from your browser, or opened in a new tab for you to pick from.
- Screenshots
- Taken from your tab and edited in the panel. They never leave your computer unless you share them.
- Convert and compress
- Files you drop on the panel are converted on your computer. Nothing is uploaded.
- Save videos I play
- Off unless you turn it on. Then it saves videos you watch to your Downloads folder. It doesn't keep a history of what you watch.
Telegram and WhatsApp
- Telegram
- FileSnatch connects from your browser straight to Telegram's servers, as Telegram's own web app does. Your login is kept only in your browser and removed when you log out or uninstall. It reads chat lists and media only to show and save what you ask for. Your messages, contacts and files are never sent to us or anyone else. Chats with saving turned off by their owner are respected: nothing is saved from them.
- WhatsApp Web
- On web.whatsapp.com it lists the photos and videos in the chat you have open, and copies the ones you choose from that tab to your Downloads folder. It doesn't read your messages, log in to WhatsApp, or send anything anywhere.
What's kept on your computer
Only inside your browser, only to make FileSnatch work, and never sent anywhere:
- Your settings, your Downloads list, and today's free-plan counts.
- Look inside results, Telegram chat lists and small pictures, so they open at once next time.
- Copies of files you preview, convert or screenshot, so you can see them again in the Downloads tab.
- Unfinished downloads, so a paused download can carry on.
- Your Telegram login and Pro license key, if you use them.
You can empty it any time in Settings → Saved data, or remove everything by uninstalling FileSnatch. In an incognito window FileSnatch runs as a separate copy, and its data is deleted when you close those windows.
What leaves your browser
- Requests to the sites you use, made from your browser to fetch the files you choose.
- Telegram, if you log in, to show and download from your chats.
- Your license key, if you have Pro: FileSnatch checks it with our license server (filesnatch.com), together with a random ID for this device so a key can be used on up to 3. When you buy, Stripe processes your payment; we receive your email address and order to send your key and help if something goes wrong. We never see your card details.
- Emails you send us, which we use only to reply.
That's all. Nothing is sold, shared or used for advertising.
Permissions, and why
Children
FileSnatch isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect anything from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be here with a new date. If a change ever means more data leaves your browser, we'll say so in the extension first.
