How to download only part of a video
Open the video in FileSnatch's preview, click Trim, set where it starts and ends, and save. You can also save just the sound, a GIF, or stop a long download early and keep what's done.
The problem
You often need only a minute of a long video: a highlight, a quote, a song. Downloading the whole thing and cutting it in a video editor wastes time and disk space, especially for long streams.
How FileSnatch helps
- Trim: set a start and an end (or click Now while watching) and save just that part.
- Save it as a video, as MP3 or M4A (just the sound), as a GIF, or as a smaller video that fits a size.
- For long streamed videos, only the part you chose is downloaded, so it's quick.
- Already downloading a long video? Save what's done stops and keeps the part that's downloaded, as a shorter video that plays.
Step by step
- Open the video in the panel
Open FileSnatch on the page and click the video to preview it.
- Click Trim
Set From and To, as times like 1:20, or click Now at the moment you want while it plays.
- Choose what to save
Video (MP4), Audio (MP3 or M4A), GIF, or Smaller video.
- Save this part
Click Save this part. It's added to your Downloads.
Good to know
- Just want the song? Save the whole video's sound as MP3, free.
- A GIF takes up to 20 seconds.
- Pause a long download and carry on later, even after restarting Chrome.
Free trims 1 video a day (just the sound is always free). Pro trims as much as you like.

Does it download the whole video first?
For streamed videos, no: only the part you chose. For single files it downloads, then cuts.
Is it re-encoded?
Only when you ask for a different format or size; a plain cut keeps the original quality.
